Suffix -i with noun bases can mean ‘act as/be (base) with reference to object‘.
Just like in the previous examples, we will need to apply confix, i.e. prefix me- and suffix -i simultaneously to the base word.
Root: sutradara (director – noun)
- We can’t create a base verb: prefix me- + sutradara → menyutradara as there is no such word.
- We add prefix me- and suffix -i simultaneously→ menyutradarai. (transitive)
- In a sentence: Pak Irwan menyutradarai film “Cinta dalam Sepotong Roti”.
- Meaning: Pak Irwan directed “Cinta dalam Sepotong Roti” the movie.
Root: juara (win/champion – noun)
- We can’t create a base verb: prefix me- + juara → menjuara as there is no such word.
- We add prefix me- and suffix -i simultaneously→ menjuarai. (transitive)
- In a sentence: Greysia Polii dan Apriyani Rahayu menjuarai final bulutangkis di Olimpiade Tokyo 2021.
- Meaning: Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu won the badminton final at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
