Suffix -i can be added simultaneously with prefix me- to a number of simple transitive verbs to indicate that the action is performed more than once. This process is called Confix.
Root: tanya (to ask)
- We can’t create a base verb: prefix me- + tanya → menanya as there is no such word.
- We add prefix me- and suffix -i simultaneously→ me + nanya +i. (to interrogate)
- In a sentence: Polisi menanyai tersangka.
- Meaning: The police interrogated the suspect.
