As Causative

The affixation process of suffix ‘-kan’ then prefix ‘me-‘ can function as causative; that is, to cause something to be or become what the base word indicates.

For example:

Rootbersih (clean – adjective or to clean – verb)

  • You add the suffix -kan: bersih+kan → The verb ‘bersihkan!’ is used for imperatives which means “Clean it!”
  • The word ‘bersihkan!’ becomes the base word/verb
  • Add prefix ‘me-‘ →  me + bersihkan → membersihkan
  • In a sentence: Saya membersihkan mobil saya.
  • Meaning: I clean my car.
